I am a plant nerd — in every sense of the word — and I’ve dedicated my entire life to understanding how plants can improve people’s lives.

For 30 years I taught college courses like Medical Botany and Ethnopharmacology and I even co-wrote a best-selling college textbook (creatively) titled Botany.

But that was in an academic setting where my colleagues and I would devise theoretical plant-based solutions to problems other people were experiencing.

It wasn’t until just recently that I began to struggle with my own problem…

Although I had all these big plans and dreams, my aging body was slowing me down, and I couldn’t keep pace with my younger colleagues.

That’s when I began a personal research project to find the answers to premature aging hiding in the plant kingdom.

After 5 years of botanical research, I uncovered…

8 Plant Foods That Can Reverse The Effects Of Premature Aging

The nutritional properties of each of these plants could fill an entire book. Every single one of them has been shown to deliver powerful aging benefits, but when combined, they produce a spectacular boost to your overall health and well-being.

1—Goji berry
The goji berry, or wolfberry, is a tangy, sweet fruit that comes from an evergreen shrub found in China, Mongolia, and the Himalayas in Tibet. Research shows that this little red berry is a superstar at stimulating stem cells, strengthening the immune system, and defending the body against disease. Studies also suggest that goji berries have the ability to support normal liver and kidney function, regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and boost brain health and protect against age-related diseases.

Chlorella is an algae that is more nutrient dense than broccoli and kale. It has an abundance of nucleic acids, which have powerful rejuvenating properties that regulate the aging process. Chlorella also supports youthful looking and wrinkle-free skin and helps you have a longer potential lifespan. To benefit from chlorella in supplement form it must be raw, organic, “broken cell wall chlorella” because the human digestive system can’t break it down on its own.

Moringa leaves contain the highest levels of zeatin; a plant hormone that accelerates the growth of new skin cells and reduces the look and feel of wrinkles. Moringa has been found to lower blood sugar and cholesterol, as well as protect against cell damage in diabetics. It’s also being tested as a treatment for Alzheimer’s with favorable preliminary results. Moringa reduces disease-causing inflammation by suppressing inflammatory enzymes.

Spirulina is a blue-green algae considered one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet because it contains 65% protein plus extraordinary concentrations of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Test subjects who took spirulina had longer endurance and burned more fat than the test subjects who took a placebo. Another animal study showed that spirulina was just as effective at lowering blood sugar as some medications.

The Cacao seed pods used to make chocolate are the #1 source of magnesium on the planet. Magnesium balances brain chemistry builds strong bones, helps regulate heartbeat and blood pressure, helps prevent constipation and even eases minor menstrual cramps. Cacao beans also contain certain compounds that can trigger weight loss and improve mood. Cacao has more antioxidant flavonoids than blueberries and green tea!

Wheatgrass is the young grass of the common wheat plant. Its high chlorophyll content, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes rejuvenate aging cells and tighten loose and sagging skin. Wheatgrass is also a carrier of oxygen which can increase red blood cell count and boost the immune system.

7—Camu Camu
Dried camu camu berries contain the highest amount of vitamin C of any botanical source — 600x more than oranges! The purplish-red berries are a rich source of powerful phytochemicals that support and enhance health. Camu camu berries provide nutritional and therapeutic benefits such as regulating muscle soreness, strengthening tendons and ligaments, and keeping organs such as the eyes, brain, heart, skin, and liver in good working condition.

The acai berry is the most antioxidant-rich superfood in the world thanks to an abundance of anthocyanins – up to 30x more than red wine! Anthocyanins are a group of polyphenols high in antioxidant value, and this gives them the ability to support healthy aging. They also have an abundance of essential fatty acids and an almost perfect essential amino acid complex and proteins that are vital to proper muscle contraction and regeneration.
